Nationally Accredited Endoscopy
Only five endoscopy units in the Greater Houston area have received national recognition for superior quality and safety by the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and Kelsey-Seybold is one of them.
The Endoscopy Units at Kelsey-Seybold's Berthelsen Main Campus Clinic and North Houston Campus have received an ASGE certificate of recognition for successfully meeting strict requirements for physician and staff qualifications, quality assurance, infection control, and patient safety.
The ASGE Excellence Award is confirmation of the long history of high quality care in gastroenterology at Kelsey-Seybold that dates to Dr. John Kelsey.
Exceeding the Standards
Kelsey-Seybold's Gastroenterology (GI) department holds itself to the same standards of endoscopic care required by the ASGE. Our application was reviewed over a six-month period by an ASGE review committee and then the ASGE governing board.
The application process consisted of gathering and submitting the following:
- Proof of successful and current accreditation by a recognized accrediting body (e.g., AAAHC)
- Confirmation that at least one representative of the unit has completed the ASGE recognition course, "Improving Quality and Safety in Your Endoscopy Unit."
- Verification from the Chief of Gastroenterology that ASGE and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines are in alignment with Kelsey-Seybold policies and that there's a through understanding of potential risks; and
- Demonstrating advanced training in gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures.
