David Scoular Digestive Disease Research Center
Digestive diseases represent the most common chronic illnesses in the United States today. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) alone affects approximately 20 percent of the population.
To better understand IBS, other gastrointestinal conditions, and the impact on overall health of patients, the David Scoular Digestive Disease Research Center at Kelsey Research Foundation – the nonprofit research arm of Kelsey-Seybold Clinic – partners with pharmaceutical companies and Texas Medical Center institutions, physicians, and scientists to bring digestive disease research to Kelsey-Seybold Clinic patients across the greater Houston community.
Research is led by Herbert L. DuPont, MD, MACP, chief scientific officer of Kelsey Research Foundation, along with gastroenterologists from Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. Current areas of research include:
- Celiac Disease
- Colon Cancer
- Gut microbiome
- Hepatocellular carcinoma
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease
- Liver Disease
- Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
