Cancer Survivor Stories

Joseph Voss: Testicular Cancer Survivor
The cancer was diagnosed, and a treatment plan was formulated within 36 hours. I believe this quick response was a lifesaver. A tech company executive’s abdominal pain wouldn’t go away. He had it checked and learned he had testicular cancer. His treatment at Kelsey-Seybold began the next day, and after multiple surgeries and chemotherapy, he’s celebrating life cancer-free.

Larry Taylor: Lung Cancer Survivor
I have the Lord on my side. He had my back … and I trusted my doctor and Kelsey-Seybold every step of the way. Larry Taylor overcame stage 4 lung cancer thanks to the care she received from the Kelsey-Seybold Cancer Center team. Her oncologist says she’s a miracle, the 1 in 3 with advanced lung cancer who survives.

Sarah Dill
I would tell any cancer patient who is coming to Kelsey-Seybold to trust your doctors and nurses – as well as listen to your body. Breast cancer was hard to go through – her perspective on life changed, but the experience also allowed her to come into contact with some wonderful people. Lauren saw how great people can really be. In the end, she could not have been happier with her care.

Cherié Shortridge: Breast Cancer Survivor
Allow yourself to grieve, get mad and be sad – but then get over it. Have a plan and follow it. Be selfish. Take care of yourself. Confronted with breast cancer, Cherié focused all her energy on beating it.

Arthur Butler: Prostate Cancer Survivor
It’ll be OK. It’s going to be a journey, but it’s one you can win. It takes endurance, focus and commitment. The fight to overcome prostate cancer takes drive. Arthur Butler shares his story of survival with the help of doctors at Kelsey-Seybold Cancer Center.

Phyllis Ceasar: Breast Cancer Survivor
I learned sitting at home alone and feeling sorry for myself was not the answer. With help from her family, friends and Kelsey-Seybold support group, Phyllis is staying positive and living through breast cancer.

Peggy Louie: Breast Cancer Survivor
I learned there was no need for fear. Breast cancer is very much curable if detected early, as in my case. Peggy learned she's stronger than cancer and tougher than she thought she was. She shares her story of survival at Kelsey-Seybold Cancer Center.

Bryanna Barriere: Hodgkin's Lymphoma Survivor
My mom, dad, stepmom, two sisters and grandmother were there with the support I needed. And I kept telling myself that everything would work out. At 22 years young, Bryanna graduated college with a chemical engineering degree...and survived cancer.

Lucille Barriere: Breast Cancer Survivor
I like being a patient at Kelsey because any doctor I need is right there. Lucille was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2006. She had gone to Kelsey-Seybold Clinic’s Main Campus for her annual mammogram, like she had many times before. This time, the results were different.

Carlos Garcia: Cancer Survivor
Vicki Hunter, R.N., Kelsey-Seybold Case Manager, made a huge difference in my battles with cancer and amputation. Vicki did an awesome job helping me and my family through a very difficult time. And she continues to help us today. Carlos Garcia shares his personal story about his treatment for bone cancer at Kelsey Seybold.

Karen Taylor: Breast Cancer Survivor
I am so happy that I went to Kelsey-Seybold, where I felt like a person as opposed to a number. Karen Taylor shares her personal story about her diagnosis with breast cancer treated at the Kelsey-Seybold Cancer Center.
