After earning her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science at Carnegie Mellon University, Andrea Costello, MD, attended McGovern Medical School, earning her Doctor of Medicine in 2019. She then completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Houston Methodist Hospital in 2023.
She provides comprehensive OB/GYN care, including annual preventive exams, pregnancy care, pregnancy prevention, and treatment for problems with menstrual periods. Her clinical interests include minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, improving access to contraception, and gender affirming care. Driven by her love for science and helping others, Dr. Costello ensures her patient care prioritizes listening to her patients to help them feel understood. Dr. Costello joined Kelsey-Seybold in September 2023.

- Houston Methodist Hospital February 2022 – 2023. Principal Researcher. Rates of unintended pregnancy and barriers to contraception access in women using Texas CHIP Perinatal insurance.
- Analyzed the ability to receive postpartum contraception in underserved patient populations and whether barriers to contraception are associated with higher rates of unintended pregnancy
- The goal was to demonstrate a demand for immediate postpartum contraception in hospitals with a large underserved patient population
- Center for Precision Biomedicine, McGovern Medical School, January 2016 – May 2019. Academic Project for Nanomedicine and Biomedical Engineering Scholarly Concentration Research Assistant | Dr. David Volk & Dr. Hongyu Wang
- Synthesized, purified, and characterized aptamers that bind to the extracellular matrix protein, vimentin, with the goal of providing targeted immunotherapy in the treatment of ovarian cancer.
- Confirmed the binding of the vimentin binding aptamers in both ovarian cell lines and ovarian tissue samples.
Hobbies & Interests
When not caring for patients, Dr. Costello enjoys baking, cycling, and spending time with her golden retriever and doodle.
